Plastic-free Made Easy

Here is a list of resources that make your quest to eliminate plastic from your life easier than you thought. Whether you're starting small or want to go big, here are some cool people and products that will help out.

We have tried many straws, and hands down, our favorite is the Pasta Straw! It holds up the best of all the straws we tested. Paper straws take 30-60 days to decompose, and may contain harmful dyes, waxes, and glues. Pasta Straws hold their strength and shape in cold drinks, and they decompose virtually overnight after being discarded.  Plus, they're fun! Use your noodle and try a Pasta Straw!

Bee’s Wrap was founded by Sarah Kaeck, a mother of three, who asked the question facing many families and home cooks: How can we eliminate plastics in our kitchen in favor of a healthier, more sustainable way to store our food? What she discovered was a lost tradition made new again. By infusing organic cotton with beeswax, organic jojoba oil, and tree resin, she created a washable, reusable, and compostable alternative to plastic wrap. We have the variety pack and love them! They keep our food fresh, are easy to clean and store, and smell delicious!

Did you know at least 9 million trees are flushed down toilets every year, and 8 million tons of plastic enters our ocean, all to make basic toilet paper? We did not! In your quest to being plastic-free, here is another great product to add to your arsenal. Pure Planet Club toilet tissue is made from bamboo, does not come in plastic packaging, and is very comfy. Be kind to the planet and your lower hemisphere with this environmentally friendly, tree-free, plastic-free toilet tissue.

Dropps is committed to delivering superior cleaning in the safest, most sustainable, and most convenient way possible. We love Dropps and get the detergent and dishwasher pods delivered to our house. They come in minimal (no plastic) packaging, only use safe and gentle ingredients, and work really well despite their compact size.  They have several stress-free plans you can sign up for, or you can simply purchase them as needed. Did we mention they are also less-expensive than the national brands?

RIPE (raw/inspired/pure/earth) is a new approach to skincare. All ingredients are sustainably sourced directly from small-scale farms on the Big Island, HI and CA. They have a simple five-product line that contains six ingredients or less, with no harmful chemicals or additives. Their environmentally-friendly packaging in glass bottles is shipped in post-consumer paper and fabric. They are rethinking skin care from the ingredients used to the arrival at your doorstep. Indulge your skin while doing no harm to the Earth with RIPE!

There are 6.8 billion people on the planet and each of us will use approximately 300 toothbrushes during our lifetime (4 per year). A conventional toothbrush weighs approximately 18 grams (.63 oz.) and each of us will throw away about 12 pounds of plastic toothbrushes in our lifetime. Plastic toothbrush waste generated during our lifetime = 80 Billion Pounds. Quit plastic and brush with sustainable and compostable Bamboo!

Bite Toothpaste bits are made with organic plant-based ingredients clinically proven to clean and protect your teeth. They travel well, come in a reusable glass bottle, and are delivered to your doorstep. What we love about them is there is no plastic or waste. They are easy to use, simply bite and brush. Bits come in two flavors, mint and mint charcoal to naturally brighten your teeth.

Lifesaver is the World's first Nano-filtration system. Lifesaver has developed a unique water bottle with a filtration system built right into the bottle. The Lifesaver Water Bottle filters microbiological contaminants without the use of any chemicals. Fill it up with water from anywhere: lakes, rivers, ponds, and dirty puddles, all without a thought to contaminants. The Lifesaver Water Bottle cleans the water and makes it safe to drink and is totally portable. Lifesaver bottles come in a variety of sizes and colors to fit your needs.

Swedish dishcloths replace your sponges and 17 rolls of paper towels. They last for nine months, can be machine washed, are completely biodegradable, and save you money! In your quest to shrink your footprint and live a more sustainable life, you need this in your arsenal.

Want to surf and swim for a lifetime? Then protect your ears! Our friends at Seki in New Zealand created the best earplugs available. They stay in, even after an epic whipeout, and are super comfortable. They have a revolutionary technology that allows you to hear while wearing them. This is really important for safety. You can chat with your mates while surfing, or hear when someone yells, “Outside!” It’s also great when playing waterpolo or swimming. What we love about them is that they won’t harm marine life because the string keeps them safely around your neck. Seki had the ocean in mind in their design. Seki means “stoked” and we are stoked about these earplugs!

Kuttlefish is the marketplace dedicated to upcycled and recycled products. It is kind of like a Pinterest and Etsy for all things recycled and upcycled. They have some very creative items for sale by individuals and small businesses and lots of unique DIY ideas. One person's trash is another's treasure!
