Join millions of people reducing their plastic waste

Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution – so we can have cleaner streets, oceans, and beautiful communities. Will you be part of Plastic Free July by choosing to refuse single-use plastics?

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

Plastic Free July’s movement has inspired over 250 million participants in 177 countries. When you make a small change we collectively make a massive difference to our communities. You can choose to refuse single-use plastics in July (and beyond!). Best of all, being part of Plastic Free July will help you to find great alternatives that can become new habits forever.

Tier 1 - No Plastic

Go all out! Do not buy or use plastic for the entire month.

Tier 3 - Take Notice

Take notice of all the items packaged in plastic! Think of it as an observational exercise.

Tier 2 - Reduce Plastic

Reduce plastic in how you shop and choose alternatives.

Not sure what plastics you can swap?

quick tips to get started

(hint: you don’t have to go all in!)

1. Start small

We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again: plastic free living is flexible - what works for one might not work for another! Take a moment to notice the single-use items you currently use. What is one item that you can easily switch out, but is challenging enough to make a difference?

You might even have a reusable option at your house! If not, our plastic-free shop has ya covered (and supports our ocean protection programs with each purchase). Here are some simple swaps we love:

Reusable Utensils → Say no to take out utensils, and bring your own cutlery from your kitchen drawer. We also sell reusable utensils in a convenient, plastic free baggie here.

Cotton Tote Bags → Bye bye plastic grocery bags! You’ll want to take this everywhere with you, they’re so cute. Check ‘em out!

Reusable To-Go Mugs → Glass jars make a great to-go coffee cup! One of our crew members even uses them with a drink sleeve (rhymes with “moozie”) to keep her hand protected. Not ready to join the glass jar hoarder’s club? We get it. Our insulated, plastic free water bottle keeps beverages cold or hot.

2. We’re in this together

We find we make beautiful waves with positivity and encouragement of each other (including ourselves). Get friends involved to keep it fun and to hold each other accountable!

Join us in celebrating our successes on Instagram by using the hashtag #beaseahugger. Together, we make a difference.

3. Keep learning

Part of the Plastic Free July challenge is to raise awareness of the single-use plastics problem while also shedding light on reusables. The hardest part is changing habits, not necessarily using reusables (it’s actually really simple + convenient once you shift your mindset!). Take note of those highs and lows to propel you forward in the plastic free journey!
