Sea Hugger’s tips for

managing eco-anxiety

To solve our beautiful, bright planet’s dark problems, we must refuse to be ruled by fear.
— Clover Hogan

According to Yale Experts, 64% of Americans in their national study said they were at least somewhat worried about global warming.

In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, join us in taking a deep breath and addressing eco-anxiety: extreme worry about current and future harm to the environment caused by human activity and climate change. Our tips are merely from experience in managing our own anxieties and are not to be used in place of professional advice. If you are feeling intense and complex emotions, we encourage you to reach out to a mental health professional.

#1. Take a walk / Meditate outside

There's nothing quite like immersing yourself in nature to soothe the soul and quiet the mind. Whether you're strolling along the shoreline or finding a quiet spot in a nearby park, taking a walk or meditating outside can help you feel grounded and connected to the world around you.

#2. Talk with people you trust

It's important to remember that you're not alone in your concerns about the environment. Reach out to friends, family, or fellow ocean enthusiasts who share your passion for protecting this planet. Having open and honest conversations about your worries can provide comfort and support, and may even inspire action. Feeling like you have no one to talk to? Reach out to a mental health professional to help sort through your emotions and concerns.

#3. Foster a sense of connectedness with nature

Spend time engaging with the ocean in meaningful ways that foster a sense of connection and stewardship. Whether it's participating in a cleanup, volunteering with a conservation organization, or simply learning more about the natural world and its ecosystems, finding ways to actively engage with nature can help channel your concerns into positive action.
